SOUTHWEST PUBLIC POWER DISTRICT RATE INCREASE
Home
During the January 17th, 2007 board meeting, the Southwest Public Power District Board of Directors approved the proposed new Retail Rates. This will implement an overall 4.0% increase in retail rates effective March 1st, 2007.
The primary reason necessitating this retail rate increase to SWPPD consumers is to pass on the NPPD rate increase of approximately 4.0% to its wholesale customers (one of which is Southwest PPD) to pay for increases in power costs.
Bob McDonald of Electrical Systems Consultants, a Colorado-based consultant hired by SWPPD, finalized the rate increase proposal for the Board of Directors to consider at the District board meeting. The rate study concluded that a 4% across the board increase would be required at this time to spread out the increased costs to SWPPD. Once again, this 4% increase will be for all rate classes and all retail consumers of SWPPD, and will be effective March 1st, 2007.
Southwest Public Power District has been able to cope with rising inflation and expenses while maintaining rates well below the national average. This has been accomplished by an extremely good working relationship between Management, Staff, Linemen, Office Personnel and the Board of Directors keeping well informed and making sound educated business decisions in an effort to maintain the primary purpose for the establishment of SWPPD: to bring safe-dependable-affordable power to our customers.
These important decisions to change a rate are always given much consideration. It is always the intention of SWPPD to serve our highly-valued consumers in the most reliable and efficient manner possible.
