Plug your home’s air leaks

It’s almost air-conditioning season, so it’s time to find out where comfortably air can escape from your home and outdoor air can sneak in.

On the outside of the house, check: exterior corners, outdoor water faucets, the intersection of siding with the chimney and wherever the foundation meets siding or brick.

On the inside, look for cracks and gaps around electrical outlets, switch plates, door and window frames and baseboards. Air can also leak through attic hatches, wall-mounted air conditioning units, dryer vents and ceiling vents.

Once you find a possible leak, simply caulk the gap.
